inland in advance of this system which is now just approaching. it will mean big changes for the weekend. today if you're away from the coast. mid 70s. a lot of fog coast and bay. there is a lot of fog. if you're driving across the bay bridge chp wants you to know it's very foggy there so use caution. that traffic looks pretty good with no major problems. also the morning commute is looking good at the toll plaza. again we are talking about the fog. steve and i will be the fog brothers. we'll tell you more about that coming up. now back to pam. topping our news we are tracking overnight new which is many san francisco's western edition neighborhood where two people were injured in a shooting. ktvu channel 2 reporter tara moriarty is in san francisco this morning at san francisco general hospital to explain what police are saying about the shootout between two cars. tara. >> reporter: well, this is where one of the victims drove himself after being shot and we don't know his exact condition but we do know he is expected

to survive. police say last night actually early this morning around 12:30 that man was involved in a shooting at fell and pierce streets. that is one block from alamo square. two people were shot. set casings littered the intersection. authorities say it's possible people in two separate cars were shooting at each other. one person was shot in the arm, another hit by shrapnel. we counted at least nine bullet holes on the side of his white car. the other victim was taken to sf general by ambulance. now we're trying to get more information about the shooting and we'll be sure to bring it to you within our next half hour. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. a baby boy wounded by a stray bullet is in good condition this morning at children's hospital in oakland. one-year-old elijah was in the arms of his grandparents yesterday afternoon at the family apartment in richmond. the gunman fired more than a dozen shots at a bicyclist on

the street. bullets shattered car windows and pierced the walls of some homes. and a bullet fragment hit the child in the neck. he did under go surgery and could go home in a day or two. >> my son department do nothing to nobody. i go to work and come home. it's not my fault i live in a certain area. >> reportedly the family was invited to stay at a local hotel last night. the bicyclist was grazed in the leg and is expected to recover. also this morning police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in a richmond collision that injured seven people. police say the driver of a chevy camaro collided with a pickup truck at around 7:20 last night on staggey avenue. two people were injured along with the man in the truck. four people are injured but expected to survive. happening right now pope francis is getting ready to

thousands of north korean's held a mass rally today chanting against the united states. the show of anger comes after the u.s. deployed stealth b-2 bombers as part of a drill with south korea. >> i don't think we are doing anything extraordinary or provocative or out of the orbit of what the nations do to protect their own interests. >> the pentagon says it is planning to increase its defense a potential north korean missile attack on the u.s.. san jose police need your help to identify two men that are leaving a light rail station. i want to show you video of a the suspects getting off the train. they are wearing plaid shorts. the robbers followed the victims and threatened to shoot them if they didn't hand over their property. here's a closer look at the

suspects. police describe them as adult males in their 20s. new employee code of conduct begins today at the port of oakland. it's part of an effort to win back public trust in the wake of a spending scandal that was uncovered in a ktvu news investigation. some port workers spent thousands of dollars of public money of a strip club. >> it's a milestone in a commitment we made to the public to respond after we learned of series challenges that we faced. >> the new policy approved yesterday includes tough new limits on employees spending and travel. and calls for mandatory ethics training for all port workers. also new this morning incoming college freshman could end up paying $5,000 more for student loans if congress does not act soon. the rate for subsidized stafford loans is set to increase from 3.4 to 6.8% july

1st. last years students got a one year-reprieve but there is no urgency to block the increase this time. today the obama administration will propose the entire country start using the cleaner gas that we already have in place in california. the eta says that will result in cleaner air across the country. the agency estimates that the cleaner gas would only increase gasoline by less than a penny a gallon. oil companies say it would add as much as nine cents a gallon. the president wants the new gas in place by 2017. the bolts on the bay bridge will not delay the opening. but repair crews will be keeping very busy the next five months to meet that deadline. the massive repair job will be both costly and difficult.

two weeks ago cal trans crews discovered at least 31 huge bolts had snapped. tests later showed the damaged bolts contain hydrogen which can weaken metal pieces. we have a warning for drivers who use the new devil's slide tunnels. there will be some lane closures starting at 9:00 this morning until 3:00 this afternoon. workers are scheduled to do additional striping on the approach to the tunnel. the tunnels south of pacifica opened earlier this week. speaking of traffic news this morning. 4:36. sal is here for us. happy friday. starting on 880? >> yes, iam. happy friday to you. 880 is doing well. right there at the coliseum. just a few miles up the road there is already thick fog in some places. in fact the fog is moving around so steve and i will be the fog brothers as you drive on the bridge please be

space. chris cassidy of the united states is one of three astronauts that traveled six hours in the capsule before linking up with the space station. 7,000 dental patients in oklahoma are being warned they may have been exposed to hiv and hepatitis. after a patient with no known risk factors tested positive for both hepatitis c and hiv. they found numerous safety violations including dirty equipment and employees reusing needles and administering drugs without alliance. >> the instruments that came out of there was horrible. i wouldn't let me nephews play with them. they were horrible. they had rust on them. >> the health department is offering free hiv and testing for patients. we have new information on the release search warrants carried out at the home of a gunman in the newtown school shooting reveal a stockpile of

weapons and ammunition. they found more than 1600 rounds of ammunition in the 20- year-olds bedroom along with knives and swords. he left behind journals which state police turned over to the fbi for analysis. they have not said if the journals provided any clues to a motive for the shooting. he appeared at the white house with 21 mothers who have lost children to gun violence. the president said after the newtown school shooting the entire country pledged to do something. >> we cried enough. we have known enough heartbreak. what we are proposing is not raddable. it's not taking away anyone's gun rights. >> the national rifle association has come out strongly against any new gun laws and some republican senators are pledging to filibuster the legislation when it comes before the senate. the supreme court is not expected to rule for months on

finally getting closer to the peckture-- picture. it's sending in high clouds. it won't be a major deal until we get to the weekend. but today it's a lot of fog on the coast and bay. it's right down on the deck. only a couple hundred feet in depth. so it can be really, really tough. 40s and 50s. a little cooler than yesterday. we're in the mid 50s for many. not much of a wind direction yet but i expect this to turn southerly. 30 up in tahoe. a lot of 40s and 50s. 50s and 60s down to southern california. this will cloud us up on saturday. maybe give us thunderstorms. it definitely has the power to do that. today fog, thick, and then sun. it will be very warm. thick, fog. morning fog. our observer dacha said here comes the fog too. 60s and 70s would not surprise me. if you're inland you will notice it and there will be a little tropical feel to it.

for the first time in more than 40 years san francisco has a new fire station. the san francisco museum of modern arts put $14 million toward the project in exchange they got the old station which needed $9 million in earthquake renovations. the new state of the art facility is located on folsom street and features new equipment for all types of emergencies including a generator which would last three days. station one is san francisco's busiest fire station with 17,000 annual calls. a bay area couple died in that big rig crash near davis. it happened yesterday morning in solano county. the big rig driver choked on some food and passed out at the

wheel. his truck then crashed through the center divide and crashed head on into another car killing a couple from petaluma. the big rig driver suffered moderate injuries. the chp says he may face criminal charges. a fire truck responding to a call crashed in oakland. that happened at about 9:00 last night at 90th avenue and bancroft. you can see from our video that part of the fire truck is on top of that car. the good news is no one was injured. investigators say the collision did cause air bags to deploy. in just a few hours, peace activists will hold their annual good friday forecast. antinuclear groups and interfaith organizations have held the demonstrations for 30 years. past protestors blocked the main gate. this years theme is based on the title of a dr. martin luther king junior book where do we go from here? chaos or community? major league baseball is back in the bay.

giants pitcher tim lincecum says he's confident about his pitches. he's ready for the start of the regular season but last wright the a's scored five runs against them including a home run by a's outfielder the a's pulled away when right fielder josh smacked a three run homer. they won 7-3. giants hope to ease out the giants fever tonight. there was a bright spot for the giants. the team announced it's extending the contract of brian and manager bruce. the deals rub through the 2016 season. at 11:30 this morning oakland will raise an a's flag. the event kicks off spirit week. the oakland airport will also shine green and yellow curb side lights. 4:54 is the time. sal is covering traffic. keeping an eye on the south

bay. let's move along and take a look at commute. the bay bridge toll plaza. i want to you warn you it's thick fog on that bridge. and the morning commute on the san mateo and dumbarton bridge are off to a good start there heading oaf to the peninsula but you may see fog around. steve, you know i'm a giants fan. >> he's a big man. he can clear the bases for sure. our system that is approaching. today is a break. there is a lot of fog. sal has touched on it. coast and bay. inland it will be sunny to mostly sunny and very warm. computer model. today inland mid 70s. we will start to cloud it up tonight and tomorrow looks cloudy. could be rain to the north bay.

saturday afternoon but here comes late saturday. rain begins to move in. and then sunday morning it looks like things really start toal apart. maybe even thundershowers. that's what you need. you need the dynamics. today you can see a little bit of a break expect for the gray. that is the fog. there could still be pop up clouds over the diablo range or toward mt. hamilton. most of this will rotate in tomorrow. 250s25050 -- 50s up on the temps. 50s and 60s down in southern california. the low son its way. but it's going to be tomorrow more so than today. thick fog. kind of humid inland. temperatures mid 70s. it's conceivable. some areas could get closer to 80. brentwood i went 77 there. 60s on the coast.
